You're reading this because you're debating whether or not you want to audition or otherwise participate in the Cricket Feet Showcase. Allow me to aid you in your decision.

     For a moment, let's forget the fact that it's the most organized, efficient, and well-managed showcase that I've ever been a part of. Let's forget that the house was packed full of industry every--single--night (hence the change of venue for future showcases) and every industry person in attendance (with the exception of one particularly surly man--but I think he was drunk) had nothing but shining praise for the show.

     Ignore the hard and oftentimes tedious work that the production staff puts into the show, working long hours before and after the show so you don't have to. Don't think about the piles of delicious food and bev before AND after the show to keep the audience full of delicious treats and margaritas or the professionally designed advertising and literature that accompanies nearly everything having to do with the showcase to give it a cohesive and easily identifiable look.

     Don't think about all the advice you'll get from Casting Goddess Bonnie Gillespie and the copy of her New York Times best-selling (we're still waiting on the figures) book you'll receive OR the meetings in the park where she'll go over your headshot, resumé, and demo reel with you and give you her honest feedback and support.

     If you ignore all of those things, this showcase is STILL worth doing. Of course, I can only speak from a personal standpoint. All I got out of the showcase was tons of feedback from non-industry and industry alike, a much coveted "Cricky Award" for getting the most industry votes for "best scene," and the attention of a fairly well-known commercial agency with whom I have since signed.
